About the role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Grounds Team on a two-year apprenticeship course, working towards a Sports Turf Operative Level 2 Certificate. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with a keen interest in Sports Turf.
Working alongside and supporting the Grounds team to maintain and prepare the playing surfaces to an excellent standard to ensure that games can go ahead on schedule.
What will you be doing?
- Undertaking routine maintenance work on the clubs sporting facilities, including pitch surfaces, to recognised national standards.
- Assist the Grounds team to ensure that the pitch and stadium is prepared correctly for fixtures and other events involving the playing surface.
- Safe operation of a range of horticultural equipment and machinery, ensuring all is maintained in accordance with routine operating requirements.
- Undertake general maintenance tasks in relation to the playing surface and surrounding areas.
- Loading, transporting, and storing equipment and materials safely.
- To have a flexible approach to working hours subject to the requirements of The Club.
- All other duties that fall within the scope of this position as designated by line manager.
- As an Apprentice you will, in the main, work alongside our experienced staff who will teach you how to do the wide range of jobs associated with maintaining The Club’s grounds to the highest standard.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for motivated individuals who have a keen interest in horticulture/ garden maintenance, who are hardworking, enjoy a challenge, and can work within a team. Someone who has a willingness to work outdoors and, in all weathers, and is committed to complete the training course required to gain a recognised industry qualification.
Must be able to work at Level 1 in Functional Skills (Maths and English) to be able to undertake this apprenticeship.
Qualifications demonstrating sound literacy and numeracy skills (e.g., GCSE English and Maths 9-4 (A*-C) or equivalent qualifications are desirable.
Things to Consider
- You will be expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- The role will involve physical work such as mowing, digging, and movement of equipment and materials.
- Please ensure you have listed all qualifications & grades/ predicted grades in the appropriate section of this application, paying particular attention to Maths & English.

Why should you apply?
This is a full-time permanent role working 37.5 hours per week on a 5 from 7 basis, based out of our Anfield Stadium. However, you may be required to work out of our other locations (Kirkby/ Melwood).
After completion of the apprenticeship and obtaining a formal qualification, you will then be eligible to join the IOG Register of Turf Management Professionals. There will also be opportunities to apply for any permanent vacancies, subject to availability.
